Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper.
This artwork was inspired by Amelia Earhart, the pioneering female aviator, advocate for gender equality and defying cultural norms. A feminist icon worth celebrating in all her glory!
Amelia the Aviatress (Against The Setting Sun) was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture and illustrations of birds. The digital negative was then contact printed onto paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and then hand finished with pure Italian copper leaf.
