This artwork was inspired by Amelia Earhart, the pioneering female aviator and advocate for gender equality and defying cultural norms.
Amelia the Aviatress (Golden Circle) was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of fashion portraiture and illustrations of birds. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand shaped circular paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and then hand finished with 24ct gold leaf.
