Inspiration
This chemigram was inspired by the discovery of the planet Neptune. In 1613 Galileo saw and recorded the planet, but on initial observation, he mistook Neptune to be a fixed blue star and was therefore not credited with its discovery.

Collection
From the series Celestial Mechanics - The Waltz of the Wanderer.

Technique
Galileo's Misobservation was created from an original manipulated pinhole film negative. The unique negative was made using the mouth as the camera and the lips as the pinhole.

The planet-like image was further developed by painting chemicals directly onto the film's surface after developing. The result was then scanned, and digitally coloured. This technique is often called camera-less or alternative process photography.
