Original, circular mixed media cyanotype.
Hand-brush coated.
Hand finished with deckled edge.
Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper.

This artwork was inspired by the influential lecturer and universal genius Hypatia Of Alexandria. A philosopher, astronomer, mathematician and icon for women's rights.

Hypatia Studies The Stars was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture, photograms of a honeycomb and hand printed chemigrams to create the planetary structures. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand made circular paper that had been brush coated with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour and pressed dry.
