Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper in a rain storm.
This work was inspired by Janus, the ancient Roman God of new beginnings. Looking to the past and the future with two faces, it is a representation of duality, transition and time. It also captures and represents Mother Nature in her purest form of rain on the print. Water is the most vital element of life.
Reflections In The Rain was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture and the surface textures of chemigrams. The digital negative was then contact printed onto handmade paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room.
Exposed to light in a rain storm, the print captures natural forms made from each droplet on top of the image adding an extra dimension to the piece. it was then washed to develop a cyan blue colour.
