DESCRIPTION

This artwork was inspired by the myth and science found in Plato's symposium. Addressing matters of gender and sexuality in Aristophane's Tale Of The Three Primordial Sexes Of Mankind.
  

TECHNIQUE

The Symposium Of Androgyny was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of a portrait of Tilda Swinton, photographs of spherical deserts and illustration of the moon. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand shaped circular paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and then hand finished with Italian copper leaf that's been treated with an oxidisation and acid wash before applying.
