Hand finished with variegated Italian copper leaf.
Handprinted on Fabriano Artistico Traditional Watercolour Paper.
This artwork was inspired by Greek mythology, the story of Philomela's transformation into a nightingale, the strength of feminine power, and the study of the night sky. It is a celebration of the human body.
Transformation Of Philomela In Copper was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of portraiture and illustrations of birds combined with the surface textures from a photogram. The digital negative was then contact printed onto paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour and pressed dry. Each copper leaf is brushed with a mix of acids and oxidisation chemicals before being applied to the piece.
