Art on a Postcard International Women's Day Auction 2023
I recently participated in the Art on a Postcard International Women's Day Auction 2023, which was held from 23 February to 9 March.
This event was more than just an artistic showcase; it also supported a significant cause by raising funds for The Hepatitis C Trust.
My contribution to the auction included four original cyanotypes on postcards, displayed for a week at The Fitzrovia Gallery in London. Each piece was successfully sold, collectively raising £650 for the charity.
The partnership between Art on a Postcard and The Auction Collective (TAC) marked their fourth collaboration. TAC, led by Tom Best, a former Christie’s auctioneer and Contemporary Art Specialist, is known for supporting emerging artists. Their auction services platform, which combines innovative technology with expert advice, streamlines both in-person and online auctions, enhancing the auction process.
The artworks I submitted and sold were:
Art on a Postcard is distinguished by its sharp curatorial approach, featuring emerging talents alongside renowned artists such as Larry Clarke, Catherine Opie, Grayson Perry, and Damien Hirst in past events.
The auction has an international reach, spotlighting artists from around the world and actively addressing the gender imbalance in the art world. This aligns with my artistic ethos, making my participation in the event particularly significant.
Lee Sharrock, a respected London-based curator, creative publicist, and writer, selected my pieces for the auction. Her chosen theme, 'Mother Earth', harmoniously matched the essence of my cyanotype works.
As an artist, being involved in this event was a proud and fulfilling experience, especially knowing that my artwork contributed to a charitable cause. I am looking forward to participating again in 2024.
Art on a Postcard's success, evidenced by its collaborations with The Other Art Fair and Photo London and its innovative fundraising initiatives, showcases its dedication to both the art community and charitable causes. It's an honour to be part of a movement where art serves as a catalyst for change and awareness.
