Technique
Enchantress Of Number (Study on Porcelain) was created by constructing a hand-cut collage using female photographic portraiture, photographs of an antique tin toy horse and photograms of insect wings.After shaping, pressing and firing the porcelain disks, they are brush coated with the melted, sensitised silver gelatin emulsion under the red safelight light and then left to dry in a completely dark room.
The large scale negative is contact printed onto the porcelain by exposing using a large format photographic enlarger. The disk is then processed in conventional black & white chemistry. The porcelain must then be thoroughly soaked in water to remove any silver residue. It can then be left to dry ready for mounting and framing.
