3-D Cyanotype, Handmade Paper, 24-carat Gold Leaf |

Inspiration
This artwork was inspired by mathematician, writer and 'First Lady' of computer programming Ada Lovelace.
A visionary who gave us a first glimpse of the idea of universal computation, Lovelace was drawn to abstract ways of thinking using ‘poetical science.’ Her thwarted potential, passion and imaginative intuition, have made her a powerful symbol for modern women in technology.
Technique
The Countess Of Counting (The Language Of Lovelace Study) was created by constructing a hand-cut collage using female photographic portraiture, photographs of an antique tin toy horse and photograms of insect wings.
After coating the handmade paper with light-sensitive chemistry, it is left to dry in a dark room. The large scale negatives are then contact printed onto the paper by exposing to daylight (UV rays). The prints are processed by thoroughly washing in water to remove any unexposed solution, then be hung to dry, developing to full density Prussian blue after 24 hours. Once the images are fixed, they are cut out and mounted to create the multi dimensional paper cut artwork and hand finished with 24-carat gold leaf.
Dimensions
Unframed: 148mm x 210mm
Framed: 230mm x 290mm x 40mm
Paper
Handmade recycled cotton rag paper:

Mount
